PBU-SIFE created a marketing campaign, Climb For Freedom, to promote RA Dickey’s (starting pitcher for NY Mets) mission of helping Bombay Teen Challenge build a new medical clinic, while simultaneously fulfilling his lifelong dream of ascending Mount Kilimanjaro.

Timeline:
September 24: Filmed RA Dickey at Citifield Stadium in New York.
November 2: Hosted a launch party to initiate the campaign.
November 11: Reached the $10,000 mark in less than ten days.
November 28: Reached $20,000 mark.
December 6: Partnered with local Chick-Fil-A for spirit night.
December 13: Reached $30,000 mark.
December 20: Reached $40,000 mark.
December 30: Hit the halfway mark – $50,000!
January 4: Soared to more than $70,000!
January 7: Reached the $80,000 mark.
January 27: Reached the $90,000 mark.
January 31: Achieved the goal of $100,000; the story continues!

Michael:

- filmed and edited a 60-second commercial
- designed a logo and tri-fold brochure

Set Beautiful Free

PBU-SIFE partnered with a nonprofit organization, Bombay Teen Challenge (BTC), that “has been consistently making a difference to the lives of those who society prefers to ignore.” Our goal was to aid BTC in advancing their business called “Set Beautiful Free” which rescues women from sex slavery and teaches them the skills to begin a new life.

I was able to utilize my artistic abilities as we prepared for our trip in June 2011 by performing marketing research and developing ideas for new products. We collaborated on multiple projects including a product design contest, a product development questionnaire, and Climb For Freedom. While in India, I worked with a small group of young men, teaching them basic marketing and video production skills.

Timeline:
December 17, 2010: First group meeting
June 1-14: Trip to Mumbai, India
November 2: Launched Climb For Freedom campaign

The Influence of Postmodernism

A ten-page research paper which examines various aspects of postmodernism and how it has specifically influenced advertising.

Thesis: Postmodernism has had such a great impact on the art of advertising that it is blatantly obvious at times, and all such advertising is very pivotal in the shaping of a person’s supposedly unique identity.

During 2010 I set the goal of creating a different photo every day. It was not easy, but I am so glad that I carried the project to its full completion; many the opportunities I encountered throughout 2010 are now journaled in a visual manner.

Homesick – Better

In the summer of 2010 I wrote, recorded, and produced a six-song EP benefitting HeartSupport. My brother, Isaac, blessed a number of the songs with his violin, and my friend, Brendan Acebo, provided some sweet guitars and backup vocals.

Find More Gigs is a user-generated collection of various venues, including coffee shops, clubs, and other places which host musical artists. The convenient map-based, searchable database is easy for anyone to use, allowing artists to spend more time perfecting their craft.
